It is recommended to clean your chimney regularly as it takes only a small amount of soot or creosote build-up to increase the risk of a chimney fire.

Draft problems can also occur because of an uncleaned SFBA (Solid Fuel Burning Appliance) and flue, which can result in smoke to be drawn back into the house. For the fire to burn properly, the chimney must pull combustible air through the SFBA. If the chimney or flue is the correct dimensions and installed correctly and it is still not providing sufficient draft, it is recommended to contact a qualified Chimney Sweep.

Chimney Sweeping should be undertaken annually (in some cases 2-3 times per year if you use the SFBA regularly or burn poor quality fuel), to remove soot and creosote build-up from the chimney and ensure there are no blockages.

 Both your manufacturer’s warranty and your house insurance may be at risk if you do not clean your chimney annually by a qualified professional.

If it’s a design that can only be swept from the top of the chimney down, Health and safety requirements stipulate that chimney sweep technician/s will need extra time and equipment to access the roof, additional costs may occur.
